Poetry Prompt For Friday July 6, 2018

POETRY PROMPT

Do digital assistants like Siri and Alexa really understand what you’re saying? Last month, a Portland, Oregon couple’s Amazon Alexa device misinterpreted a series of sentences it overheard as instructions to record a private conversation and send it to an unsuspecting person in their contact list. Write a poem that centers on a misheard conversation between two people. Experiment with different homonyms or homophones, or other ways the sounds of different words or phrases can be misheard. How might the misinterpretation of words create unexpectedly fresh ideas or images?

Reflection For Saturday December 30, 2023

Saturday December 30, 2023

Today, still not feeling well I stayed home for the entire day. I spent several hours on the internet with posting back posts to my Facebook, Twitter & blog. And I’ve been researching Christmas stuff for 2024 to use in cards/Facebook etc. I’ve found Old English riddles as well. As I am not leaving the house ’till January 3, 2024 I did a tally of all the loose cash I’ve found in 2023 which comes to a grand total of $49.13. That’s thanks to the $40 I found in June. I’m hoping that I’ll find more money on the ground in the next year.

Is Anybody Listening?

Is Anybody Listening?

Reflect

There are seasons in our life where we feel absolute loneliness–feeling unheard by both God and those in our lives. The promise of Jesus is that he knows this loneliness, and experienced it through his incarnation. When we feel ourselves in this space may we turn to the one who never leaves us, because he, too, knows the pain of feeling unheard.

Pray

To the God who listens, who knows the depth of heart
and the pain that entraps me in lonely moments,
let me stumble upon your revelation around me today.
Let me be drawn closer to the heart of the Incarnational Christ,
who knows the pain of feeling unheard.
May I be seen and heard, and know that you are with me always.
Amen.

Act

Take time today to do something for yourself that brings you joy. Remember that the joy you experience–no matter its size–is a reminder of God with you.

Haiku Poem #1
By: Tara Kimberley Torme

When I see others
Around me having children
I get really sad

RACHEL TAYLOR’S RESPONSE TO MY HAIKU POEM #1 FOR TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 22, 2020:

I get really sad
The more I think about
How lonely we are

Haiku Poem #2
By: Tara Kimberley Torme

You keep asking me:
Why don’t I just kill myself?
Then you’d be happy.

RACHEL TAYLOR’S RESPONSE TO MY HAIKU POEM #2 FOR TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 22, 2020:

You keep asking me
“Why don’t I just kill myself?”
Because I love you
