Creative Non Fiction Prompt For Friday February 9, 2018

CREATIVE NONFICTION PROMPT

In his memoir Love Is a Mix Tape: Life and Loss, One Song at a Time (Random House, 2007), Rob Sheffield centers each chapter around a mix tape from his own life and uses the songs to narrate and explore the love and loss of his wife. This week, try assembling a mix tape of your own. Write down the names of songs that were important to you at a particular time in your life, and build outwards from there to begin an essay. Reflect on that moment when you first heard these songs: Was it on the radio in a car, or on your headphones, or did someone share them with you? Is it the music or the lyrics that stay with you?

Reflection For Sunday July 30, 2023

Sunday July 30, 2023

Today I donated some more of my churchy books to St. Mary’s Library. I have way too many books. I am simplifying my life. I am only keeping books that I will use all of the time. The librarian was super pleased with all of my donations. There were books he did not have. And some of them were brought up to the rack upstairs for sale by donation. So now I am pleased those books are out of my house for good. And next week I shall donate some more books so others will have a chance to enjoy them. I just love passing along my books.

Listen to the Silence

Listen to the Silence

Reflect

In Psalm 19, the Psalmist tells us that all of nature proclaims God’s glory; that even though not a sound may be heard, even the darkness of night declares God’s glory. Do you hear it in the quiet? Can you see it in the darkness?

Pray

Oh Lord, open my eyes that I may see more clearly
the signs of your glory;
open my ears, that I can hear the wonder of creation;
and open my heart, my hands, and my lips
that I, too, may join in the song.

Act

If you can arise before dawn and listen to the quiet of the world awakening. Write down three things you hear or see, and share them (later) with a friend or family member.
